Rapid tooling

Rapid tooling is a specialized service focused on quickly producing certain types of molds and finished parts. It achieves this by significantly reducing the time required compared to traditional full-production tools. This is accomplished through optimizing design, fabrication, and material choices to enhance production efficiency and minimize downtime.

How does rapid tooling work?

Rapid tooling works by streamlining the creation of molds and tools for manufacturing, often by using advanced technologies to reduce lead times. Here’s a general overview of the process:

Design:The process begins with creating a detailed digital design of the tool or mold using CAD (computer-aided design) software. This design serves as the blueprint for the subsequent steps.

Prototype Creation:A prototype of the tool or mold is produced using rapid prototyping techniques. Common methods include 3D printing (additive manufacturing) or CNC (computer numerical control) machining. These techniques allow for quick and cost-effective creation of initial versions to test and refine the design.

Tool Fabrication:Once the prototype is validated and any necessary adjustments are made, the final tool or mold is manufactured. Rapid tooling often employs techniques such as: Injection Molding with Quick-Turnaround Molds, Stamping molds, Bending molds and winding molds.

Testing and Iteration:

The final tool or mold is tested to ensure it meets the required specifications and performs well in production. If needed, further adjustments are made to refine the tool.
Production:

Once the tool is finalized and tested, it’s used to produce parts or products in a relatively short time-frame compared to traditional methods.
